VIETNAMESE BANANAS
GENERAL
Bananas are one of the most popular fruits in the world. Vietnam homeland has many kinds of sweet and aromatic fruits, one of which is banana, a familiar specialty of the countryside. In Vietnam, there are three popular kind of bananas such as: cavendish banana (chuoi tieu); chuoi hot (seed banana), chuoi ngu, chuoi chau. (Chuoi is banana in Vietnamese)
Each year Vietnam produces about 1.4 million tons of bananas, and a huge proportion of that reaches the Chinese market.
Usually, about 70 to 100 days after grown, the flowers of the banana trees bloom, the square fruits become rounded, and when the color of the fruits turns light green, it is time to harvest. Unlike other fruits, bananas can be harvested all year round, because banana production areas are distributed in tropical and subtropical areas.
CAVENDISH
Cavendish banana or Chuoi tieu: A bunch of Chuoi Tieu usually has just enough 10 fruits. This type of banana has a curved shape like a sickle. When unripe, the banana is dark green. When ripe, it turns into a bright yellow with a very eye-catching look. Chuoi Tieu, despite its color, green or yellow, are all eatable. Chuoi Tieu is compatible with places that are humid and has regular rainfall during the year. (Tieu is pepper in VietNamese)

- US is the largest importer. Mainly selling bananas in US came from Latin America.
- Philipines is the largest banana exporter in Southeast Asia. Their main clients are China and Japan.
